George R. Summers
GEORGE R. SUMMERS, 86, of Milton, IL died Saturday morning, June 24, 2006, at the Liberty Village in Pittsfield, IL. He was born November 12, 1919, in Jacksonville, IL, to Howard Andrew and Osie Marie Mellor Summers. He married Dorothy I. Baker on January 21, 1942, in Palmyra, Missouri, and she survives. Mr. Summers served his country in the Army Air Corps 4000th Bomber Squadron during WWII. He worked for the City of Milton and was a mechanic for Johnson Implement Company and the Milton Implement Company. George was member of the Milton Christian Church. George enjoyed coon hunting; he coached Little League, taught Sunday School and served as the Sunday School Superintendent. In 2004, George served as the Parade Marshall for the Milton Corn Carnival.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, five
sons: Dale (Cathy) Summers of Raymond, IL; Carl Summers of Vinton, IA;
Glenn (Jan) Summers of Pearl, IL; Warren Summers of Springfield, IL; Roger
(Vicki) Summers of Pittsfield, IL; and three daughters: Mrs. Albert
(Barbara) McIntire of Pearl, IL; Emily Verenski of Phoenix, AZ; and
Pamela Summers of Milton, IL. He is also survived by one brother:
Stanley Daryll (Emma) Summers of Jacksonville, IL. In addition, he is
survived by a special friend of the family Lotus Guthrie of Milton, IL.
He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with Bro. Wilson Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at the Greenpond Cemetery in Pearl, IL. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Niebur Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Greenpond Cemetery, the American Heart Association, or to the Donor’s Choice. Niebur Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
