Dale Gene Smith |
|
This page is devoted to my friend and classmate. This page is devoted to an American hero who served his country gallantly. I could not visualize Dale fighting a war. He was a kinder, gentler, peace loving man. He was the one who always saw the nice way of things. He was the one who prevailed calm. He was the one who told me I was too radical with my thinking and actions; yet, he was the one who wrote in my yearbook "To tell it like it is". Ultimately the war even came to nice people.
Dale didn't deny his duties. He went to war; giving his life. |
| Dale was a very popular person in high school. Much of it had to do with his personality. He was the good guy in the white hat. Dale was our senior class president. An office won on his sincerity and desire to do our class well. He was shy, yet humorous, but quizzical too. Dale didn't volunteer for much but when he did it was with great gusto. | ||
| Dale was in the Army. He was with the 4th Cav, 25th Infantry Division, Troop B. He was in supply. He was killed on May 20th, 1969 in a mortar attack at Tay Ninh, RSVN. He had only been in the service for a year and in Nam less than 3 months. |

Read "The Boy Next Door", a beautiful poem by Gary Jacobson, a fitting tribute. |
